The rise of India and China seems dramatic . One of the reason , is the western imagination of India was a poor , backward and often a nation having huge scale violent , conflicts until recently.

Suddenly, west was told that India and China are economic giants, driving world growth by converging on the European model of modernity. They are people who have again , forgotten that India and China both had a 5,000 years rich and illustrious history.

Though ,the attempt to explain the world by exalting the apparently unique western virtues of free-market capitalism and democracy may seem to have run into problems lately. The sudden rise of the two biggest countries of the orient, supports the faith expressed by the American columnist Thomas Friedman: that globalising free-market capitalism and democracy will enable much of the world's population to reach the summit of material plenitude, political stability and social security, where western societies apparently reside.

But there is much to do with the Economic format , both the countries . They had state controlled economic bodies and lesser amount of private intiative. The great effect of the globalisation , has come in the level of building entreprenuers and that is the real secret of the story behind 'Awakened India'.

Where do you start, your plan from ?

I have seen different Industry, have different plan structure . Obviously, there are broad generalisation . However, a content architechture of the AEC Industry ( Architechture ,Engineering & Construction ) has a wide difference, with the content architechture of Telecom Industry . Even the content architechture, becomes different according to different demographies . When you are making a plan, for a developing country , there are lot of times , you have to prove, that country is a right place, to invest into . Though this not important , in case of a developed country . So, what is the good starting point of a business plan with this vast differences , in structure , demography and Industry.

Though , there are different starting points , for diferent plans . But broadly , the starting point which creates most advantage is , the vision section , where the broad picture can be shown using few words within a paragraph.

Is India heading towards the product game too?

Recently, some of the business plans, I made in Indian Market , is extensively focusing on making a product company . Some of them are online and the others are offline. Has the time for building a product company from India, finally arrived ? Can this transformation possible now, that we start also making global Internet and IT product brands . Following are the indicators , which says the time has finally come. Let me find , whether you agree on it or not ?

- There are no dearths of opportunities. And presently there are no significant players. Along with, there are host of categories – Telecom, Consumer Electronics, Non-Conventional energy, Software systems and tools, Food processing, financial systems, Instrumentation, Automobiles and the list is endless .

- Finally, the Indian Middle class has arrived , with a great purchasing power. One of the problems with products, that companies often use to mention, by not able to build a strong product, is the absence of a large domestic market. Now that problem is not there.

Young Indians going to lead the world

So , Young Indians are not going to lead only India . Henceforth they are considered to be leading the world too . Why ? While the world grows older ,the India is growing younger . The aging population of US , Japan and china will create a shortage of skilled manpower . The shortages will be 1.7 crore for US , 1 crore for China and 90 lacs for Japan. This shortage is about to happen in 2020 .On the same time , India will have a surplus workforce of 4.7 crore . It seems that, we are going to reach our Past president’s Dr. Abdul Kalam’s vision of India becoming a developed country within 2020 , in the scheduled time.

However , this are projection about what would be happening . In addition , to take the advantage, there needs to be a lot of planning done. Some bit of these, has started also with the Budget of Rs 300 crore for skill development alone, during the annual budget 2008-09 .

A total sum of 22,800 crore also has been devoted to skill development in the 11 the Five year plan period by planning commission of India.

There is projection , there is plan ? … Is there executions also ?

This is where the education organizations around India , has to play a pivotal role on really bringing Indian skilled world force in such a manner , that they can create the future of world .

Isn’t that what our ancient gurukul’s use to do ? Creating people that could change the future of nation and world ? Are our education organization of present times, has that capability to play this role ?

Can you see the tree , the sappling which is in the process of becoming a tree ? And the seed ? - Obviously the last one is expecting too much . We can't see the seed . It is very hard to see , as it is below the ground.

But we could see the forest . Its big . It has so many trees on it ? Can you dare to ignore it ?

Same with small business . It's like a small sapling , which will grow into a tree, some day, and encourage other trees to come together to , build a grand ecosystem like a forest . Can be, it is small today ! It would not be small in his entire .. life span.

Small business are the foundation of the global and national economy . It is not the Fortune 500 , or Fortune 1000, or Fortune 5000 , who makes all the differences , in all the key parametres of the economy . It is small business across industries and segments , which helps the economy to prosper , to build new realities, silently. Small business are the foundation of any economic growth .

However , it has been seen , that normally this segment gets least assitance from every corner of society - be it regulatory authorities , be it policy makers , be it financial institution . They all wait to shower there blessings , when the small would become big . Ironically , if the span of the blessings, of our opinion leaders , policy makers, and financial institutions could expand a little bit . Then there will be more volume of big companies growing from a small business . That would be the success story, of any developed or developing economy - When you can see the forest , but at the same time you can see the tree also, just next to your building , who is suffering from lack of water and attention.

Save .... the tree ... you save the forest .

Save the small business ... and you will save the economy.

In search of excellence in Business Plan writing

What could be the benchmark of the excellence in writing .

All writings are someway different, and they reflect different perspective . There is a preference of narrative styles, over others .

Can good writing be just a good style ?

Recently , I was listening to an eminent novel writer . She was describing , how poetry writers , listens a music, and tries to catch that music in words . For her , novel writing is different then that . It is essentially people oriented .So she catches charcter. And that's why , novel writing is more about characters, and seeing those characters living in reality , facing the problems .

Infact , intially every novel writer, is very unhapy . As he could not make out the characters. Or they don't stand together as a whole story . But with time things get easy and then the fun of writing starts, when the plot slowly unreveals to the writer, in the process of writing .

To me , it sound similar, to Business plan writing process. This month , I was writing two Busines plans . They are of two industry . One is in outsourcing . Other is in telecom. As a Business plan writer , I can't write plan by listening music , or observing characters . For me , it is understanding the entreprenuer.

When I listened the vision of the entreprenuer , and felt the passion of him . It seems to be little easier . But it started becoming fun, when I started writing, and I started discovering the rules of a completly new Industry and a new business . It was an experience of unrevealing plot also.

Though the audience of novel and poetry are different than a Business plan . One is targeted towards a larger population, and other towards a limited section of people . I found the process of writing is same , though the knowledge may vary widely .

So , what could be a benchmark of an excellent business plan . And who sets it . Is it also same , like novel writing and poetry writing.

The benchmark here is different . In one case it is the sales volume . Whether , it becomes a best-seller or not, defines the excellence of a Novel or a poetry book.

In case of Business plan the benchmark is the value. After seeing the plan , how much the investor would be ready to invest into the Business ? And how many would be interested to invest ?

In one case , the number of customer matters , in other case the value paid by the customer matters . Still, the question remains , is it a real criteria for excellence ?

Are all best sellers, excellent books ?

Are all business plan which fetches huge investment , excellent plans ?
